Written during 1941, Coward’s classic comedy of high spirits, glorious satire and sophisticated banter is one of his best-loved plays. With his trademark wit and deliciously biting humour, Blithe Spirit has been entertaining audiences for many years and the Clonmel Theatre Guild is delighted to be brining it to Clonmel in April 2024.
Blithe Spirit tells the story of how successful author, Charles Condomine, while researching material for his new novel, arranges for a séance to be held which has unforeseen consequences. With the help of eccentric medium, Madam Arcati, the participants at the séance call back the spirit of Charle’s first wife, Elvira, who died seven years previously.
Unable to be seen by Charle’s present wife, Ruth, or anyone other than Charles himself, Elivra makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles’s second marriage to hilarious effect.
Blithe Spirit is widely regarded as Coward’s finest play and is sure to provide a wonderful evening’s entertainment of drawing-room comedy and ghostly mischief.
