Cast announced for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

February 26, 2020 By Clonmel Theatre Guild

DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS WE HAVE POSTPONED OUR UPCOMING PRODUCTION UNTIL ADVISED BY THE HSE THAT IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

Until then please stay safe & mind yourself. Thank You for your support over the years.

Clonmel Theatre Guild is delighted to announce our next production will be Tennessee Williams’ iconic play “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” directed by Catherine McVicker.  It will be staged in the White Memorial Theatre, Clonmel at a future date to be announced.

Tennessee Williams’ heart-wrenching drama examines the undercurrent of deceit holding a wealthy family together while threatening to tear them apart. Over the course of one sultry Mississippi night, the characters’ gentility disappears as accusations of greed, sexual desire, and dishonesty — long repressed — come to the fore. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play (Williams’ self-proclaimed favourite) forces the audience and characters alike to determine what is truth, what is a lie, and which lies have become the truth. The setting for “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” is a Mississippi plantation during summer in the mid-1950s.

Director Catherine McVicker has chosen a wonderful cast for this play. They are:-

  • MARGARET — SUZANNE DUNNE – Known as “Maggie the cat,” wife of Brick, edgy, tense and suspicious of her husband
  • BRICK — JOHN MORRIS – Husband of Maggie, once an outstanding athlete, youngest son of Big Daddy and Big Mama
  • MAE — JANET MCENTEE – Sometimes called ‘sister woman’ wife of Gooper
  • GOOPER — HUGH HENNESSY – Brick’s older brother, sometimes called “Brother man,” a lawyer
  • BIG MAMA — SUSAN MOORE – Loud, brash, anxious
  • BIG DADDY — EDMOND RYAN – Conflicted, blunt, desires to regain his control after a long sickness
  • REVEREND TOOKER — DAVID WALSH – The family’s Parish Pastor
  • DOC BAUGH — JIM MALONE – The family doctor
  • LACEY & SOOKIE — JENNIFER LYNCH & BARBARA BINCHY – servants
  • CHILDREN —BELLA, CHARLIE & CHRIS – Children of Gooper and Mae

We are all very excited about this production and look forward to seeing you in the White Memorial in May.
